On Saturday, October 17th, 2020, the camellia garden in the Chinese Garden of the Luisenpark in Mannheim was opened.
In the last few months, 193 different varieties of camellias have been planted on an area of 800 square meters, including many japonicas, sasanquas and rare wild forms. These are mostly donations from members of the International Camellia Society (ICS), who would like to help ensure that the camellia garden can apply for an award as a “Camellia Garden of Excellence”.
The ICS gives this "award" to gardens in which over 200 different varieties and species of camellias can be seen. To date, this award in Germany has only been given to “Flora” in Cologne.
I highly recommend visiting this magnificent camellia garden, located behind the Moon Gate of the Chinese Garden. The first autumn-blooming camellias are already showing their magical flowers.
